Growing up poor meant your shoes came from Payless. Your clothes came from cousins’ pity hauls, church basements, and Goodwill racks that smelled like mothballs and dust. It meant being teased for things you didn’t choose and couldn’t change. And now... it’s astonishing (and a little enraging) to watch pop culture rebrand thrifting as a trend.
What they laughed at then, they’re copying now. Sanitized. Styled. Monetized.
